Be involved! Be a candidate!
Neighborhood Council Elections are being held all across Los Angeles this spring. The election for positions on the Mid City West Community Council (MCWCC) Board of Directors will be held on Thursday, May 13. Voting information is available here.Although the election is in May, NOW is the time to consider becoming more involved in your community by becoming a candidate for a position on the Mid City West Community Council. There are 45 seats on the Board, so there are many opportunities to be involved in this way.
Included here is basic information to help you prepare to be a candidate. Additional information is available from the City Clerk Election Division. The Department of Neighborhood Empowerment is holding a meeting on March 25th regarding Candidate Preparation. Note that this meeting is after the filing deadline to be listed as a candidate on the ballot at the polling place, but may be useful to candidates.
To become a candidate with your name listed on the ballot, your completed forms and eligibility information must be received by the City Clerk Election Division no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, March 15, 2010. An additional filing period follows this one, but only to be a write-in candidate. Forms and required documentation may be mailed, faxed or e-mailed to the City Clerk Election Division. See the Election News story for more information about filing.
Qualifications to be a Candidate: A Stakeholder is someone who lives, works, owns property, or declares a stake within the MCWCC boundaries, and affirms a factual basis for it. For all positions, you must be at least 18 years of age to qualify to be a candidate. A candidate for any position other than Zone Representative or Member at Large Representative must be a Stakeholder in MCWCC and indicate an expressed interest in the category. For the seven Zone Representative positions you must be a resident of the Zone that you are intending to represent. Member at Large positions are open to any MCWCC Stakeholder at least 18 years old. The official Neighborhood Council Election List of Acceptable Forms of Documentation, as determined by the City Clerkâs office, is included in the Candidate Filing Packet.
